History

Ruta de las Iglesias 10k is organized in honor of its founder, Saadin Solah. It has been recognized as one of the most beautiful nocturnal races in the world by international organizations as well as by locals and athletes. It is a race for people who love to run, regardless of their experience level.

This extraordinary race takes place in the Historical Center of Quito, one of the most beautiful in all of South America. By running at night all athletes get to experience the starry Andean sky as well as the lighted landmarks and architecture that stand out on the route.

When Ruta de las Iglesias 10k first started there were only 2000 participants, but this year there will be 15000 athletes. Make sure you sign up for the race as soon as it is possible since all spots are usually filled in one day!

We have always aspired that our race be unique and innovative. From the very start we incorporated a chip timing system, automated photographs for all that cross the finish line, meticulously planned hydration points, and much more! All athletes that sign up for the race and cross the finish line receive a finisher’s medal, warm blanket, collectable bag, and much more! Also, there are prizes for each category in both women and men’s categories.

Ruta de las Iglesias 10k has a charitable purpose and is managed by hundreds of volunteers. The race donates part of its proceeds to the Special Olympics Foundation that gives support to young people with special needs through sports and building much needed schools.

We hope you decide to join us this year and get a chance to be part of this unforgettable experience! Admire the Historical Center of Quito from a view point you will not get to experience any other way and run a race like no other high up in the Andean night.
